Common Mechanical Lock Troubleshooting Guide
Issue 1: One Screw Will Not Insert Fully
Symptoms: One screw will not go in all the way during a new installation.
Type of Lock: Deadbolt, Knob, Lever
Resolution:
- Remove the lock.
- Reinstall the lock, ensuring that the screws are going in straight and not at an angle.
- If the problem persists, a replacement lock is necessary.
Issue 2: Can't Lock/Unlock, Interior Thumb-Turn Won't Move, Key Won't Turn
Symptoms: Unable to lock or unlock the door, the interior thumb-turn won't move, and the key won't turn during a new installation.
Type of Lock: Deadbolt, Knob, Lever
Resolution:
- Uninstall the lock.
- Rotate the driver bar fully toward the hinges.
- Reinstall the lock, ensuring that the deadbolt is retracted, and the key is removed.
Issue 3: Can Only Remove Key in One Position (Either Locked or Unlocked)
Symptoms: The key can only be removed in one position (either locked or unlocked) but not the other during a new installation.
Type of Lock: Deadbolt
Resolution:
- Uninstall the lock.
- Rotate the driver bar fully toward the hinges.
- Reinstall the lock, ensuring that the deadbolt is retracted, and the key is removed.
Issue 4: Key Sticks or Is Difficult to Turn
Symptoms: The key sticks or is difficult to turn after the lock has been in use for a period of time.
Type of Lock: Deadbolt, Knob, Lever
Resolution:
- A replacement cylinder is required.
