Is the Schlage Home App Required to use a Schlage Encode Series Lock?

While the Schlage Encode Series (models BE489, BE499, and FE789) can be used without the Schlage Home app, it is not recommended. Using the lock without the app limits access to its full features and causes the battery to drain significantly faster. However, the Encode Series can still be manually programmed directly at the keypad for basic functionality.
