What is the Backset?

The backset of the door is the measurement (in inches) from the center of the cross bore to the edge of the door.
 

The standard backset for Schlage Residential Locks is 2-3/8 to 2-3/4.

How to Measure the Backset

1. Locate a tape measure or ruler.
2. Find the center of the cross bore hole (the midpoint of the bore).
3. Measure in a straight line from that center point to the edge of the door where the latch or faceplate sits.
4. Record the distance in inches
