Can You Install an Encode Lever and Another Encode Series Deadbolt on the Same Door?

The ability to install both the Schlage Encode Lever (FE789) and another Schlage Encode series lock (BE489/BE499) on the same door depends on the door preparation. Here's what you need to know:

Standard Door Preparation

If your door follows the current industry door prep standards, the locks will not fit on the same door without modifications. 

This is because:

• The handle's bore hole (for the lever) and the deadbolt's bore hole (for the Encode lock) are too close together, causing the locks to overlap.
• Standard spacing between the bore holes does not provide enough clearance for both locks.

How to Make It Work

To install both locks on the same door, you will need to customize your door by increasing the space between the two bore holes. 

Here's how:

1. Measure Existing Bore Hole Spacing:

• Standard spacing is typically 5-1/2 inches from the center of the handle's bore hole to the center of the deadbolt's bore hole.

2. Increase the Spacing:

• Adjust the bore hole spacing to at least 6-1/2 inches or more, depending on the dimensions of the locks.
• This ensures that the locks do not overlap and can be installed properly.
