Most Schlage residential locks feature removable cylinders to make rekeying easier. Please follow the guide below to remove, replace, or swap your cylinder.
Please Note: If a cylinder swap or replacement is needed for the Schlage BE365, it must be performed by a certified locksmith. Removing the torque screws on the BE365 model otherwise voids the Schlage Residential Warranty Policy. |
To Remove an Existing Cylinder:
- Uninstall lock if necessary.
-
Remove the cylinder retaining screw. (See illustrations below.)
Mechanical Deadbolt (B60, B62) Motorized Deadbolt (BE489, BE499, BE459, BE469ZP) - Remove the cylinder by pulling on the metal driver bar or tipping the assembly over so the cylinder falls out.
Installing a New Cylinder:
- Drop the new cylinder in place.
- Re-install the retaining screw.
- Mechanical deadbolt users: If your new cylinder is shorter than the original and you’re unable to tighten the screw to hold it in place, please contact our Customer Care Team.
- Motorized deadbolt users: Before installing the lock on the door, make sure the driver bar (flat metal stick that extends from the back of the cylinder) is horizontal, with the protruding bump on the upper right edge.
- Re-install the lock.
